Description

The tour starts at 8am from Cambridge with a 2.5-hour drive to the south coast, passing east of London and crossing the Elizabeth II road bridge over the River Thames. The route continues through the scenic Weald countryside south of London, including a rest stop.

Arriving near Eastbourne, participants climb to Beachy Head, the highest cliff on England's south coast. Walking along the coastal path towards Seven Sisters Country Park offers clear views of the sea and coastline leading to Brighton.

A short stop at the pebble beach at Birling Gap includes time for refreshments at the Visitor Centre. Then the tour proceeds along the coast road through small resort villages, reaching Brighton in 45 minutes.

Brighton, once a fashionable Regency resort favored by the Prince Regent (later King George IV), offers attractions such as the amusement arcades on the pier, The Lanes’ narrow passageways, the Royal Pavilion’s unique architecture and interiors, and the bohemian cafes and independent shops of North Laine. Street performers and buskers often entertain visitors.

In the late afternoon, the journey returns through Hove and back to Cambridge, arriving by approximately 8pm.
